Business activism and the role of communication in NGOs with Nacho Sequeira

”In recent years, above all, I would highlight the importance that companies give to the pride of belonging of their employees. These are generations of young people who are increasingly demanding of the company’s values. ”

Nacho Sequeira has been CEO of Fundación Exit for 19 years. From this position of extensive experience in the field of NGOs in Spain, he has agreed to hang out with us in a new Nal3Talks to talk to us about the role of business activism in large companies and how this is helping to promote the work of Exit, a foundation dedicated to the labor insertion of young people at risk of exclusion.

His experience also gives him a broad perspective on the current and future challenges of these organizations to connect with those sectors of the population most disengaged from traditional media. Are you going to miss this interesting interview?

The strategic role of corporate activism

In this conversation, Sequeira touches on all areas. Before introducing us to the concept of business activism, he introduces us to the necessary relationship between companies and NGOs which, in the case of Fundación Exit, is fundamental. Having the support of corporations and SMEs that provide mentors and job opportunities, respectively, to young schoolchildren at risk of dropping out of school is the backbone of the organization that Sequeira directs. As you will see in the video, it is worth noting that in most cases these young people go through social and personal circumstances that end up affecting their studies, so usually the problem that can jeopardize the future of the young people that Exit helps is not a lack of ability or talent for academics. Sequeira also points to the reality of youth unemployment in Spain and the lag behind other countries in the promotion of intermediate training as contributing factors to the lack of conviction and hope on the part of this sector of the population.

In the midst of this situation, Sequeira points to entrepreneurial activism as a key to the success of Fundación Exit’s program. He highlights the value that this entrepreneurial activism has gained with the arrival of new generations to the labor market.

Of course, in this interview you will also find the importance of the role of communication in making business activism a reality, whether from political correctness or from a more combative side.

Next, enjoy a speech full of reflections, arguments and space for self-criticism, in which Nacho Sequeira shows us that strategy and NGOs are two concepts that are more closely linked than we think.
